About Angelique

Angelique Scully, a native of Massachusetts, studied at the Sharon Music Academy under the direction of Tanya Schwartzman from 2002–2015. She graduated Magna cum Laude with her B.M. in piano performance from Ithaca College, where she studied with Dr. Charis Dimaras. Throughout her training, she worked with distinguished artists including Alex Korsantia, Max Levinson, Nikolai Lugansky, Kirill Gerstein, Alexina Louie, and Angela Cheng.

She has earned numerous awards, including first place in the Mary Hayes Senior Piano Major Competition at Ithaca College, the Steinway Society Senior Piano Competition, the New England Piano Teachers Association Competition, the Young Promise International Music Competition, the Kenneth A. Darrell Memorial Piano Competition, the American Fine Arts Festival, and the Massachusetts Music Teachers Association Bay State Competition. She was also featured on PBS radio following her Steinway Society win.

In 2024, Angelique completed her M.M. in piano performance under Dr. Jennifer Hayghe at the University of Colorado Boulder. During her time at CU, she served as a instructor of class piano, collaborated extensively with choirs and instrumentalists, performed alongside faculty through the university’s honors chamber program, and taught privately for the university’s Youth Piano Program. In keeping with her passion for dance collaboration, she performed with Boulder Ballet in their spring program, playing the music for Christopher Wheeldon’s Carousel.

Angelique is also a former classically trained dancer with numerous accolades, having danced for Festival Ballet (now Ballet RI) and Ballet Theatre of Maryland before turning her focus fully to music. Her background in dance continues to shape her artistic identity, inspiring interdisciplinary projects that unite movement and sound.

In 2022, she co‑founded Duo Merté with violinist Laura Grube, a professional violin‑piano duo dedicated to highlighting works by women composers. The duo made its debut at Phillips Exeter Academy and later completed a successful tour across Massachusetts. They continue to develop new programs and commissions.

Following graduate school, Angelique served as the Dance Pianist Intern at the prestigious Interlochen Arts Academy, working under Joseph Morrissey and Steve Larson. Her work there included serving as rehearsal pianist for two full ballets, accompanying master classes led by world‑renowned guest artists, premiering a neoclassical solo piano work, and performing her own Vivaldi transcription to original choreography. During this time, she also deepened her improvisation practice and discovered an affinity for electronica that complements her classical training.

Angelique is now on the faculty of Skidmore College, serving as a Collaborative Pianist in both the Dance and Music Departments, where she supports classes, rehearsals, and performances across a wide range of disciplines. She remains committed to bridging her dual passions for music and dance, creating performances and collaborations that bring the two disciplines into vibrant dialogue.
